I have eleven email accounts. Yes, I know. But that covers four companies, and three personal addresses in three different countries. I could reduce this a bit, but it would still be at least 8, so not really worth the effort.

I'm on Android and currently use K9 Mail, but it's increasingly unreliable. Although it's supposed to poll every 15 minutes it'll often go for several hours without retrieving any new emails. If I'm in front of my laptop, I use Outlook, so I can see how far out of sync it gets.

I don't want to use the Google Mail app becase I don't like the UX/UI. And the las time I looked, it had some ridiculous 'conversation grouping' ste, which made it all but unusable for me. K9 is, theoretically, simple and straightforward, but I need something reliable.

Any recommendations?

Last time I looked, you couldn't. As I said, I don't like the UX.

You can disable both conversation grouping and the inbox segmentation. But if you don't like it, you don't like it.

I have Aqua mail and it is rock solid. Mrs Newc has been on K9 for a while but it seems to have been abandoned, so she was looking to move to Aqua. However they seem to have moved to an annual sub model now rather than a single purchase. Instead she is testing out FairEmail which is a one time $10 and so far is good. Not as polished or as many features as Aqua but the basics are running smoothly and it is under active development so will catch up over time.

Thanks. I don't need full featured or whistles and bells. This is just for email when I'm mobile, which isn't a lot just at the moment, smile

It might be worth checking the app settings for your K9 app to see if it's been optimised by the OS for battery performance. If it is turn off that optimisation and see if it returns to your regular expected 15 minute polling.

Outlook is excellent. Microsoft’s software is usually junk IMO but they nailed it with that one.

I use Aqua and it is excellent. They offer a one-off paid version which is £20.

An important point about the "free" email clients is that they all have servers that act as a proxy (intermediary) so they have the ability to see, and therefore harvest, the details of all your emails and sell it on so they are not really free, they are compromising your privacy in exchange for a free service. Gmail, Outlook, BlueMail, etc. they all do it.

I paid for Aqua as it is purely a client, there is no intermediate server between the client and my email services so ensures privacy. It's also a very good client and well maintained.

Nine, more features than you can possibly need and I like the UI. Costs about a tenner.

I use Nine as well - purchased in 2015 and has been my choice of mail / calendar app through several phones now.

For those of you using Bluemail, there have been a few 'security issues' reported - from what I understand instead of it checking your emails directly like a 'normal' mail client, your requests (and your emails) go via Bluemails servers, they store backups of your mails and add functionalities like push mail notifications for account types that don't support it (eg. IMAP).

This means that your account details and credentials also get sent via them, which may present a risk that a lot of organisations would deem to be unnacceptable - you are trusting a third party with your email passwords.
