New starter in the office is having my iMac 27" that I use at home so I need a replacement.

In the office at the moment, I have this with this and it works brilliantly for me with my Macbook Pro.

So I'm thinking another Brydge dock at home and a 42 (ish) inch screen I can also hook my PS4 up to, I don't use it much but means I lose a screen as well as the iMac.

Are there any decent screens that will work in a similar way to the LG Ultrafine with USB-C input? Another keyboard and trackpad and I've replaced the iMac in a much tidier fashion.

Should add now that I've got to the office and remembered, the screen could really do with being 2-way USB-C i.e. carrying signal from laptop to screen as well as charging the laptop, do such things exist other than horrendously expensive (and too small) Apple/LG screen.

This might be just about what you need: https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id...

I think it has USB C charging capabilities. No speakers, though. The Ultrafine ones are quite passable, and you of course won't get a webcam in there either.

One thing I would say is that you'll be in for a bit of a disappointment with most screens after using the Ultrafine 5K. Wasn't the most reliable monitor (mine has failed a few times, and I've repaired it with AliExpress spares now!) but the panel is a cut above a lot of screens when it comes to clarity.

Unless you’re planning on placing it much further away from you than the LG monitor, a 42” 4K screen is going to be a massive disappointment.

You’re going to be spreading fewer pixels across a significantly larger area, you’re roughly halving the pixels per inch. You’d need an 8k TV to get to similar levels of sharpness.

This is the problem I’ve found with the retina displays, it’s hard to go back once you’ve got used to working in them. The only thing that’s come close for me is a pair of 24” 4K monitors, but that doesn’t help with the games console.

Purchase a Dockcase adapter for your charger then just have your screen and everything plugged into that.

Means one cable to your MacBook that charges, connects to a HDMI monitor and up to 3 USB devices

Thanks guys, you're probably right re the 42" screen. Maybe another LG screen so the same set up as the office and stick my PS in the living room.
