We have a new HP laptop that has an RTX2060 in it and also a Monitor that can handle 240hz. Currently it connects via HDMI but I have read in the monitor specs that to get the full 240hz you have to connect via display port.

Laptop is this:

Monitor is this:

The laptop ports are the following:

1 Thunderbolt™ 3 (40Gbps signaling rate) with SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (DisplayPort™ 1.4, Sleep and Charge)
1 Mini DisplayPort™
1 HDMI 2.0a

My question is what is the best way of connecting these and what cable spec would I require?

Thanks

Yep, you need to connect via DisplayPort to get the full refresh rate. You should use the Mini DisplayPort connector on the laptop to connect to the monitor. I'd recommend this cable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Matters-Mini-Displa...

Not sure what your monitor is, but you might need to jump through some hoops to get it to run at 240Hz - at the very least make sure that the monitor is set to DisplayPort 1.4 in its settings, and check in the Nvidia control panel that the refresh rate on the graphics card is set to 240Hz.

Very good that you actually have a Mini DisplayPort connector on the laptop. I have 3 and bit grands worth of Asus Zenbook pro duo which also has an RTX2060 but no DisplayPort. No problem you might think, I'll just use the thunderbolt connection with a display port adapter. Nope. It turns out that it up to the manufacturer to decide what graphics card the thunderbolt port is wired to (gaming laptops typically have the high performance RTX card and onboard intel graphics). And guess what, mine is linked to the Intel graphics.

Many thanks for the reply, I will get the cable ordered.

I am a few years out of date with video standards and connectors and I had assumed it would all get easier, sadly it just seems to get more complex!
