Airplay from Mac not working

Last week, my MBA happily connected to the Apple TV so that I mirror the screen onto the telly. This week, it won't, and when I click on the Airplay at the top of the screen I constantly just get this:



I can still use Airplay/Apple TV from my phone and that works fine. I've searched the net with no real indication of what's up. I've restarted all devices, they're all on the same network, all plugged in, but just the above happens.

If I go to Displays Preferences and select Airplay Display at the bottom to Apple TV, I just get blank screens.

I reset the ATV box and updated it yesterday but still get the same as above on the MBA. Running Catalina 10.15.7.

Any clues anyone please?

If you keep that open, does it change from

"AirPlay: Looking for TV...":


...to "AirPlay: Off":


If so, have you check the option in Display Preferences hasn't somehow been unticked?

Resetting paired devices sometimes works.

Yes that's exactly what I'm getting. I did check the Display Pref option and when I selected Apple TV, both the MBA and the TV went blank!

As of now, with yet another reset, I can mirror to the ATV again but in the Airplay dropdown at the top it still says Looking for TV.

Odd....and I don't recall changing anything. Having all manner of tech issues in the Cappo household currently, someone must have dropped a big magnet somewhere
