I have both and love them. However, turning on this morning, Thunderbird froze big time and I had to re boot.
Firefox has now lost half ( Only half! ) my favs. After loading Thunderbird, it has changed the look, lost the colours and forgotten all the passwords to the accounts.
I have downloaded the latest virus update and scanned. Nothing.
Please help.......

Not sure about thunderbird, but firefox uses "profiles" to differentiate between users. It's possible your profile has either been corrupted, or you are now using a new profile.

You can check this from

Documents and settings->(user name)->Application Data->Mozilla->Firefox->Profiles

If you are the only user you should only have one folder here. If you have more than one that might explain it, but I'm not sure the next step to be honest!

Next step is to look at the bookmarks.html file in each of the profile folders and see if one looks like its got the correct stuff in it.

Update.
I now have a mostly working, but still unusable Thunderbird.
It downloads the messages but hangs on the last one, and stops responding.
I have re installed it. Rolled the computer back and still no joy.
Other than re install the XP and start from scratch, HELP!!!

Could be the last message in your mailbox is the problem

Try the following from a command prompt:

c:> telnet your.mail.server 110

You will get a response along the lines of:

+OK POP3 server ready

Now type in (note you might not see what you type, and you can't press delete or backspace in telnet, if you get it wrong just type it again.)

user yourusername [enter]
pass yourpassword [enter]

You should then get a message along the lines of:

+OK mailbox locked

You then simply need to type the STAT command to see how many emails in your inbox:

+OK 3 8127

In this case - three messages, so if it's the last causing the problem, you delete that using the DELE command:

DELE 3

The server will then respond:

+OK message 3 deleted.

Then just type QUIT and that should be it. Try your thunderbird client now.

Of course if it's nothing to do with the last message then you've just wasted some time, sorry about that!

Edit to change the word "can" to "can't" since it makes quite a difference to the meaning of a sentence!!

Unfortunetly it is not the last message. I have a laptop and it can download the whole lot no problem. This being so, the main computer with the problem is trying to download a new set of messages each time I try.
