Any recommendations for a free alternative to Dropbox? Ideally something that I can automatically upload phone pictures to.

I've just realised I'm paying £9.99 a month but only using a tiny fraction of my storage allowance, and it's all phone and camera images. I like the idea of stuff being in the cloud rather than having to remember to back it up to a separate physical drive (which would inevitably be in the same place as my phone and camera should the house burn down)
Thanks

Google Drive or OneDrive which are cheaper if the free tiers aren't sufficient.

Short answer yes, longer answer as with most things is "it depends".

They tend to be the two biggest names for this sort of thing if you don't want to be paying Dropbox/Box type money.

I've always found OneDrive a bit hit and miss uploading photos from Android. Slow to spot they're there and slow to actually upload them. Dropbox on the other hand has always been spot on.

the Google Photos app auto uploads phone pics via wifi.
standard definition is free, but they are going to introduce a 20gb cap next year.

everyone should have this installed, as the amount of people you see moaning that they've lost/broken their phone and lost all the photos.

If you happen to have office 365 you already have a 1tb OneDrive allowance. It is a bit of a bargain really, otherwise google photos as it has a better app.

Mediafire free gives you 10GB and you can get more free with referrals and other things. I've got 54GB free with them.

Android and iOS app lets you auto-upload photos.

Not sure how it works on iOS but on Android, Google Photos becomes your default photo handler and can upload via Wifi/4G or both.

You can then view them on any device with it installed or even by going to photos.google.com

Dropbox has a referral scheme. Pay someone on fivrr about £10 and they will generate a bunch of accounts using your referral link = lifetime boost to Dropbox storage to around 18GB (ish)
