My internet access has been slow for a while now and i have complained but it never speeded up.
couple of nights ago it was crawling so did the reboots. Called virgin, was taken through the various options, a recording told me there were no faults and that they are not open, no details when they do work
Yesterday internet was even slower, did a speed test, reboot again, rang virgin. Was on hold for 50 minutes got through to India and got some good news, engineers are working on upgrading in my area and they will resolve the matter by 10am; 5 of February!

Are you sure your Decos are 1GB cabled?
I upgraded to Virgin 1GB a couple of months back. Bought Deco mesh APs, speed was not as expected so checked spec. Found the ones I bought were only 100mb, not 1GB. Sent them back and got the 1GB version, now WIFI is running at upto 450mb with an Ookla test.
You'd think every modern device would be 1GB these days, but apparently not and it wasn't that easy to check o nthe website.

Thanks for the suggestion:-
It says they were on Amazon
“ Provides fast and stable connections with speeds of up to 1167 Mbps and works with all internet service provider (ISP) and modem”
However that is a bit misleading i just found:-
“ Despite having AC1200, the maximum WiFi speed you can get on the Deco E4 is only up to 100Mbps due to the limitation by the Ethernet port. So, I only recommend this model to those with a 100Mbps or slower Internet connection”

My 200mbps Virgin BB is around 210mbps when directly connected & wifi
Only 75mbps on my to link deco mesh, trying to figure that out !
I don't about Deco specifically but one thing to check is that the master node (the one wired to the SH3) isn't in router mode AND the SH3 is in router mode. Had a similar issue with a Tenda mesh. Something to do with double NAT. Reduced wifi throughput to 20mbps. Put the master node into bridge mode and instant 100mbps connectivity.Only 75mbps on my to link deco mesh, trying to figure that out !

I have the SH3 in modem mode (to disable wifi)
Deco in Router mode
I researched & the deco ethernet port is 100mbps, a limitation which is not in the products description!
I’m ok now though thanks.
The SH3 in modem mode, only has 1 live port (the first one you connect to after reboot, that had me going for a while..)
I now have a 5 port Netgear switch connected to SH with 1gig ports
My SkyQ / SmartTv / Deco mesh connect there
So the mesh wifi is 100mmps due to the deco ethernet undocumented limitation.
The SkyQ etc is now via the netgear so gets the Virgin 200mbps speed for Netflix & all that, away from the mesh

Just to observe, it's perfectly possible to have the SH3 in Router mode and turn the wifi off.
Another thing worthy of noting as more and more people work from home- the Virgin routers are typically not good with VOIP and might need to be run as a modem with an appropriate router.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
