I need a scanner/printer/copier that can output in colour legal lender documents. Really dont want an inkjet clattering round and the faff of cleaning whilst pouring ink that costs a fortune away.

I've waded through the usual 'best buy' sites and think this should do the trick:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-MFC-L3770CDW-Wire...
It seems to tick my boxes, but as usual, a PH recommend is so useful!

Has any one any experience of this unit or any suggestions?

If it's black and white documents then laser in definitely the route to go.

Just remember that the toner cartridges for laser are £100-£150 a pop so you need to be doing a lot of printing to justify one.

The trick is to check on the price and availability of the toner. My experience of Brother isn't great, but it was some time ago.

The big boys such as HP are usually pretty good in my experience.

Toners don’t look to bad for cost tbh.

My wife has a new HP inkjet. It’s a pita, always getting blocked cartridges, and cracks on they are used even though she prints mainly in mono.

It’s also noisy.

It’s a company printer, so cost isn’t the issue, but even
so....

Need a laser really as they don’t smudge.

I've had this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-DCP-L8410CDW-Wire... for about 3 years or so, I'm not a high volume printer (home office/small business), but it scans and prints just fine, cartridge costs are quite high, but for me its an annual change.

Similar unit to the one you linked to, not looked in detail at the spec differences.

Its physically quite big and heavy. I bought two B&Q open kitchen carcasses and a piece of worktop to fill an alcove, it sits inside one of the carcasses just fine, I have an A2 photo printer on the worktop!

I never bothered having a printer at home because of the cost of ink cartridges, but then I saw HP Instant ink and it caught my eye.

Suits me perfectly, you agree how many pages you want to print per month and that's all you pay - The cartridges are posted to you automatically when your ink starts getting low. That and paper obviously.

50 pages is 1.99 per month , 100 is 3.49 up to 700pm for £22.49 - But yeah the best bit, never buy cartridges, the ones you get are full HP smart cartridges, i.e. you cant cancel your subscription and use them at all.

The printer itself was around £40, prints in decent enough quality that photos come out well, has built in scanner/copier functions and of course is wireless.

PM me if you do get one as i have a referral code beer

They are often cheaper elsewhere than Amazon

It's a pound cheaper from your recommendation, but thanks. I've wasted ages trying to wade through choices, it's a minefield!

The one I have (and linked to in my first post) is £25 cheaper and has a physical ethernet connection.

There was a thread a few months ago looking for similar spec of printer. Some decent suggestions on there.

For my part, the HP I bought has been great, all configured with shortcuts for scanning to various network folders, direct to work and private email addresses etc.

There have been a few recent threads about printers:

The general view has been that the Brother printer seem to work well & have non-OEM compatible toner cartridges available to keep running costs down.

That seems to concur with my findings. I was mainly wondering if some other make was better than Brother. Always had an aversion to HP as apart from everything else, the software has been quite intrusive, with popups ect.

Anyway, I'll crack on with my original choicce I think.

Really appreciate all your feedback chaps!

Inkjets have moved on. It’s refillable tanks, not cartridges. Have a look at the Epson EcoTank models. I’ve bought two now, quite impressive how many pages they can produce without issue/refills and their AirPrint/cloud capability is really quite something (I may be easily impressed)

I wouldn’t touch HP if my life depended on it.

Apparently don't play nicely with imacs.

Bought one of these recently (arrived yesterday): https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7839229

Working very well so far. Much better and easier to set up than the Xerox bought last year (keeps defaulting to US paper sizes!).

I think we've got the non-scanner/copier (ie print only) version of that. It's been brilliant.

Perhaps not what is required by the thread starter

But I have one of these, couldn’t be happier for general home printing!
£24 a year for ink , no faffing about with expensive cartridges or dodgy copies smile

Bought one of these a few months ago to replace very reliable Brother MFC9340 we'd had for about 6 or so years. Replacement was due because it was more economical to replace the whole thing than replace the bits that had worn out - needed a new fuser unit and drum, at the same time as all the toner cartridges ran out.

Works great, does as good a job as the previous Brother, and as others have said, there's a good market for non-OEM stuff. No probs recommending Brother MFCs based on my small experience.

Don't forget to reset the page counter for the cartridges before replacing the cartridges - usually get double the life before replacement is actually required.
