Hello

Since before Xmas my Chromecast and Google home and home mini have been acting strange.

Now there is nothing found at all.

They all set up fine on the network and connect to the WiFi.

However when I try to cast to them or open them on the Home app, it just says your device can't be found.

I've reset everything, uninstalled everything and even got a new phone. but it still does the same.

If I ask the speakers to play radio 1 they will. If I change to hdmi on the TV the Chromecast is there.

I can cast YouTube to the TV's but the CC or speakers are not an option.

I'm missing casting BT sport, Disney + Spotify etc

Google suggests to check that the phone and devices are on the same network. I'm convinced they are..

I'm starting to think my WiFi is causing this, not that I'd know how to identify this...

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Jake

Do you have them on a separate vlan/guest WiFi network?

I've been googling for hours to no avail.

The home app takes the WiFi and password from my phone so not sure how it can be different?

Check the router settings for something along the lines of client isolation and turn it off.

If you think it might be the WiFi setup causing this, can you describe your home broadband/wireless setup?

Do you mean on the router itself? Can't see anything like it?

Interesting, better looking install than mine (also see the light fttp). I digress...

Has it ever worked with this router? Can you communicate between the speakers?

Could be running both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks, with the devices ending up on different networks. That tends not to work all that well with Chromecast

Hmmm. Both are available but the 5hz has much lower signal and it's secure and I've never entered a password...

Yes I can broadcast to the speakers for example and the speakers will play the radio if I ask, so they're obviously connected to my network.

Ok. Can you cast to them from chrome on your PC?

Is your phone definitely on the WiFi - as it is also connected to HSDPA this could be confusing it. Turn off the mobile data and try again?

Hi.

This makes no difference. It also doesn't work on any phone

Thanks

Paul may be onto something. Can you login to the router and temporarily turn off 5Ghz? Will be interesting to see if forcing all the devices onto the same band causes different behaviour. While in there make sure ssid isolation is off.

Ok, I've never been in here before!!

Turned off 5 and now got a list presumably of the devices connected. Can't seem to turn said off tho?

Thanks

Under WLAN ssid configuration.

Page 11 https://hyperoptic.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/...

Don’t turn off the ssid your phone is connected to! If you have the same ssid on 5 and 2.4 turning 5 off will force the clients all onto the same band. On different bands the router could be failing to pass mdns that cast needs, so turning off 5 should help is test the theory.
