Evening, my 9 year old has a chromebook and we've set up a Google family link account so we can keep an eye on what he gets up to etc.

All very sensible, but he can't access YouTube where there are videos he needs to watch for his home schooling. It just takes him to YouTube kids which doesn't help. To get round this he's been using YouTube on his kindle, but he's tried to log in to YouTube on that and that now refuses to run the main site banghead

I can't work out how to resolve this, I can see his kindle on the family link app, but it won't allow me to remove the device. I've tried clearing the browsing history on it (and the chromebook) after making YouTube a safe site via family link.

Any ideas?

You can't. YouTube is 13+ only so he can't use it.

Install Firefox (the browser) and he can acess YouTube via that. But don't log into YouTube because then you will have the same issue with it redirecting you to YouTube kids.

EDIT: But you won't be able to keep tracks on what he looks at on YouTube.

Only thing you can do is set up another account for home to use on the Chromebook and let him know it's just for YouTube and nothing else.

Family link is great for keeping tabs on them and locking the phone etc when they are being tts but the YouTube restrictions is a proper pain on the arse really.

Thats what I was thinking, but I can't see Firefox as being available for his kindle. God knows how to get around that one!

I get that youtube is for over 13, but I'm his parent not Google. It should be up to me as a parent to monitor my children. His youtube history is just people playing roblox and animal videos, he's not looking at anything he shouldn't. Nor will he as he can't access it now laugh

Go to apkmirror.com and grab the YouTube Vanced app from there and install it on the Kindle.
As noted above by others, create a new account for YouTube and use that to access it.
