Hi All. I am trying to get a laptop set up for the childrens home schooling and have bought a laptop and seperatly bought SW from Unity Software.

I have followed the instructions carefully and am now at the point where the machine is asking "Where do you want to install Windows?"

I am presented with:

Name Total Size Free Space Type

Drive 0 Partition 1 499.0MB 485.0MB Recovery
Drive 0 Partition 2 499.0MB 485.0MB System
Drive 0 Partition 3 128.0MB 128.0MB Primary
Drive 0 Partition 4 236.8GB 236.7GB Primary
Drive 0 Partition 5 500MB 500MB Primary
Drive 0 Unallocated Space 81.0MB 81.0MB

I have tried to change the allocation to:

Drive 0 Unallocated Space 1.1GB 1.1GB
Drive 0 Partition 1 236.8GB 236.7GB Primary
Drive 0 Unallocated Space 581.0MB 581.0MB

However, when i try to install on any of the above partitions I get:

Cannot install as partition is of GPT style

Any ideas how to format this correctly to just get windows to install?

Answering my own question.

Deleting all but the primary worked.

You should be able to expand the primary partition into the contiguous unallocated space after install, if you’re bothered. A clean install can be put onto a disk with no partitions at all - it’ll sort that during the installation.
