Hi, I hope this is in the right section. At my job I have to write a lot of surveys and take accompanying pictures for them. I find it a nuisance to hand write them all and take pictures, then go to my computer and type it out whilst uploading all of the pictures.

My question is, is there an app available where I can create reports and attach pictures? I’ve tried notes but when I try to send them the file is too big because of the images. I don’t have a company laptop just an iPad, so would rather do it on the iPad rather than have to go into the office and do it at my desk.

Thanks in advance.

OneNote would have been my first answer, that's what I used to use for site surveys for relocations, fitouts, etc. I guess images are always going to be large whatever software or app you use - can you put lower-res ones in or do they have to be very detailed?

ETA: I originally wrote "Notes" when I meant OneNote. It's really useful, everything is in the cloud, and if you have a pen you can sketch stuff out while you're on site.

You might be able to use DropBox to transfer the note - https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-files-fold...

Why not just use MS Word? You can type your notes as you go along and insert pictures directly using the camera.

OneNote. It's free and very good. Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android.

Would voice to text help as well? As in, record your comments - while you're taking pics - as text, then you'd only have to edit the notes rather than type them up as there is likely to be the odd misinterpretation, which you could check visually after each paragraph.

For which industry? There are plenty of industry specific apps for this sort of thing on the App Store.

Sounds like you need an Ipad Pro too.

Thanks all. It’s just for surveying possible high voltage and fibre optic cable routes. The reports themselves don’t need to be anything glamorous I’m just looking at an app I can use so I can write down my notes and attach a specific pic to that note. Then when I get home I can have a sit down and elaborate them more.

Microsoft word doesn’t look like a bad option.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far I’ll take a look into them.

This is a large part of what I do. Stop messing with Word.

Look at Forms by device magic. I have the vast majority of my work completed while inspecting because of this, and very rarely have to mess about copy and pasting photo's. it is a revelation!
