BT Broadband Only (no phone line)
Discussion
Has anyone tried using BT Broadband only? Currently we never use our phone but we're paying for both the line rental and broadband and so it looks attractive.
I'm thinking of getting a VOIP solution just so that we have the option of using the phones in the house.
Has anyone gone down this route? It'd be good to get your experience, especially if you have a VOIP provider recommendation.

I'm struggling to see any price difference when I enetr my postcode. Fibre Essential is £26.99 with or without a landline.
You're lucky then...Virgin Media charge you MORE if you don't take the landline. On the BT site, I get the 'great news' banner, then an estimated speed of 8-16mbps...which is about half I was getting from them years ago before Virgin Media became available in the area.

You have to have a line unless you have a fibre to the premise (FTTP, not FTTC).
The broadband works over the copper phone line so unavoidable otherwise. There are alternatives like DIAs, Ethernets, Satellite etc but these aren't really viable for residential.
Most broadband providers load the line rental costings into their price. You probably won't be able to make calls if you don't opt for their landline but they still have to pay Openreach. Their cost from Openreach is around £7.50 for a residential line.
Virgin is different as they have their own network of physical cables

Not sure is Vodaphone offer is still on (via QUIDCO too) as £22.95pm for broadband and phone line included (we don't ever use the phone as their charges are extortionate- check the small print)- fixed for 2 years. Moved from BT as they seem to have a random uplift generator than supersedes any loyalty freezes that you think you are getting.

I'm looking at this.. "Never use your home phone? Now you can get our great value broadband without a landline phone service. "
It looks like it's about £27 a month. Currently I pay 20 something for the line and another 25 to plusnet for the broadband.
Yes, that's the page I was looking at. The problem is that this page gives exactly the same price so it's no cheaper:It looks like it's about £27 a month. Currently I pay 20 something for the line and another 25 to plusnet for the broadband.

Of course BT might be cheaper than Plusnet but that's a different issue.

Ouch; I pay £25 all-in for their Unlimited Fibre Extra including the line rental. Why are you paying so much more?It looks like it's about £27 a month. Currently I pay 20 something for the line and another 25 to plusnet for the broadband.
It's a bit moot though as I'm just in the process of arranging FTTP all being well - 900 up and down with Zen...

Sogea is the latest offering from BT and sky offering broadband only with the potential for a voip service through the router , you are of course correct that you still need a copper pair from the exchange and the cost for that doesn’t change dialtone or not .The broadband works over the copper phone line so unavoidable otherwise.
