Does anybody have any experience of this? I'm running an Athlon 64 and fancy upgrading Windows to take full advantage of it.

I was looking into it about a month or so back and decided it was best to wait a while.

Apparently whilst running 32bit apps it's slightly slower but 64bit apps run 50% faster than the 32bit counterparts. The main problem however is lack of support - whilst most programs will work, stuff that intergrates with the OS entirely will fail dramatically (i.e. any Firewalls, AntiVirus etc). Even down to simple programs such as GTR racing Which uses StarForce protection won't work (it might do now mind).

Having said that, a lot can happen in a month.

Is the free download still only for XP pro? (Damn the XP home addition which was supplied with my AMD 64 PC).

Getting 64 bit drivers was a big issue but things should have moved on by now. I would check any hardware you have angainst the manufacturers website to see if they have 64 bit available yet.
