New or refurbed iPad Mini?

Maybe a Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 or Lenovo Tab M8 at less than half the iPad Mini price?

BTW, is this for typing notes, or entering them with a stylus?

For what purpose and to what end?
A small digital dictaphone can be useful for reminders or recording stuff you might forget later.

Depends on the context really. My Galaxy Note is really good because if I pop the stylus out I can immediately write on the screen and then put the stylus away and it'll store the note, it's quick. The handwriting recognition is good too.

If you want very detailed notes then something that records voice and turns it into text might be the way to go, Google are best at that, but you might have data security issues, or it might need too much work to condense full speech into notes?

I gave myself a brain injury 5 years ago and would like to get something around £150-£200 that I can put quick notes down on.
I use to use a dictaphone but going through minutes of chat is tedious. And there are better things than listening to my own voice

+1 on the Note, really handy combination with the phone and stylus

I've got a Microsoft Surface with a stylus too, really handy for doing typed and handwritten notes but obviously bigger and a bit pricier

I really like Mont Blanc Augmented Paper ... normal seeming pen, normal paper ... notes get uploaded automatically to the device and app ... really simple and just works (or has done for me).

The Google 'Recorder' app will translate speech to text - it's very good indeed, it even understands my broad Glaswegian accent (for the most part, and as long as I stick to English and not Scots...)
It was initially a Pixel devices only release but I think it's now in the play store? I sideloaded it on to the ex-wife's Huawei P20 Pro as it worked fine (so fine in fact that she effin used it against me to have me removed from the family home...)

Samsung will likely be your best bet for writing based as they've been working on that for years.
