Sony HD3 MP3 Walkman
Discussion
Right... I got a HD3 walkman 2 months ago, great little device, size, features everything. Only problem is that the software's holding back my enjoyment. Reason being I have most of my music on my PC in .WMA format (I know... I know... but it's done now).
Does anyone else have problems copying the .WMA files onto the device using the sonicstage software, because it just crashes each time I try. Very annoying indeed, as I can't get any of my old music onto the player, just the stuff I ahve with me on CD and anything I buy now (As it can all be ripped to .MP3)
I don't suppose there are any alternatives to this software??
I think I might try and download the CDs I have in .MP3 format. Anyone know where I can get Radiohead: The Bends?

This doesn't help you very much, but for anyone else looking in on this thread, avoid Sony music products like the plague.
Their software is woeful, and their attitude to digital music rights somewhat Himmler-esque. They also do not help when you have hassles.
The only music oriented product of theirs I would ever recommend are their in-ear eadphones.
Sorry your having hassles. Sadly do not expect any joy from Sony themselves either.

Can't you just copy and paste the music with Windows Explorer?
Does'nt index the music on the HD3, been there.
is it technically impossible, or has that been artificially disabled by Sony? I know there are a lot of players available out there that support many formats, and will accept files from every computer that features USB hotplugging. It's a bit like a nice and expensive car, that only drives on its manufacturer's own roads

I use a bit of software called Vaio Music Transfer. (by Sony)
Is an absolute piece of p1ss to use, just drag and drop any music file, in any format into it's window and it will transfer it to your HD in a Sony playable format, i.e. ARTRAC3 or ARTRAC3 Plus or MP3.
Not entirely sure if it will work with the HD3 though.

That would work...
The problem is converting all my music into a format the HD3 can play. aka Atrac3 or MP3.
I'm guessing a good WMA to MP3 file converter would be ok.

Indeed it would.
IIRC Vaio Music Transfer converts anything you drop into it into ARTRAC3 anyway, be it WMA or MP3 or whatever.
Problems may arise though if you wana transfer them back onto your PC from your HD3, I don't think it reconverts back to original format, or that it even could. But you should be ok if your gona play anything back using SonicStage as ARTRAC3 is it's prefered standard anyway.
