iPad Mail - Invisible messages!

My dad uses the standard Mail client on his iPad. A few weeks ago he clicked on a link in an email supposedly from the DVLA. As a result, dodgy emails were sent to his entire address book.

I’ve since installed malwarebytes and there have been no further mass mail outs.

However, he now has an issue where some emails are not visible in his folders, including inbox. If you use the search function, you can find these emails and read them But if you simply gonna not the folder where they are stored, they are not visible.

Is this a result of the initial phishing email OR another issue? Can anyone recommend a solution?

I’m tempted to do a factory reset on the iPad but wondered if there was a less extreme option!

After some research, it looks like this is a common bug and there are some settings that can help.

If anyone can add more insight though, please do.
