Installing & configuring PC for another user...
Discussion
I've been asked to supply and set up a Windows computer for one of the gaffers.
They're expecting me to pre-configure it and just drop it off and for it to just work.
I foresee a few issues having tried doing similar before - especially as I don't have their password.
Microsoft 365 will require password, Outlook invariably requests password on first use, as does Teams and OneDrive. As domain admin I could reset the password temporarily, though that would stop them receiving email on iphone and elsewhere for the duration.
Is there an established way of doing this? I really don't want to know the password.
I don't imagine the CEO of ICI or BMW has to wait around to enter their password for the computer johnny. How's it done in the corporate world?

Our's are set up as single sign on, so one username/password gets us into Windows, Office 365 (including outlook), MS Teams, etc.
Still have to set up recovery details for forgotten password and for PingID for the VPN and secure parts of the intranet.
Although some of that is now semi-automated with a 2D barcode on the front of the laptop where the user can scan it on their phone/tablet and be taken to step-by-step instructions to follow (with a back-up number for the local desktop support team).

MFA makes this a ballache, you need the user hanging around like a lemon while you do your biz.
In 365 you can set trusted IP’s that won’t prompt for MFA, like the office IP which can help.
Otherwise you can arrange to have them on the phone to approve the MFA while you add it into work & school accounts, once you’ve added it in there it shouldn’t keep prompting you.
Sometimes they’ll leave me their phone with the pin if it’s a work phone.
You can pause their MFA but then they’ll have to run through the setup again and might get irate when they can’t do it.
