Thinking of upgrading my dual 27” 1080p monitors to an ultra wide. Not going crazy so looking for similar size.

I’m used to drag apps to one monitor whilst working on the other. For example I will have RDP on one and VS in the other.
How easy is this on an ultra wide monitor?

Has anyone used MS Teams in ultra wide? I snap the pop up call window on one monitor and the Teams app on the other. Is this possible?

Finally, any recommendations for a monitor? I don’t need ultra high res so minimum of 1080p suits me fine.

Cheers for any advice!

Windows key + cursor key snaps the window to left or right of a monitor. Not sure if possible to do that as left, centre and right.

I have multiple HD monitors as it makes dragging and maximising easier. The also rotate to portrait mode which is handy for writing long docs

I'm running two dell 27" monitors (2560x1440), I snap my MS Teams window to one side of one of the monitors.

I've also installed the PowerToys app and use the Fancy Zones tool to provide more control over the screen real estate.

eta: yes you can have the call window on one screen and the Teams app on another.

Fancy Zones is good, you set up your zones however you like, then just hold shift when you drag if you want to snap to a zone.

But, if you put a program into fullscreen mode (not Maximised, I mean when you press F11 and lose all the menus and fluff), it doesn't go fullscreen within it's zone, which is iritating.

There are better alternatives, but they tend to be over complicated!

Drag the window all the way to left or right edge to "snap" to that half of the screen. Drag to corners to get it to snap to that quarter.

Ultramon ( https://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/ ) and others can give even finer control if you need. I know a lot of people like to logically break an ultrawide into a middle working area then with others on the periphery.

Thanks all. Specifically interest in those with ultra wide monitors. It will save some space in my home office so tempted to get one instead of using 2 monitors.

However would still want windows to snap and not sure how this works on an ultra wide monitor.

Exactly this.

Drag one window to the side and make it a touch wider, and the other space will be filled (e.g. you can have 2/3 of a screen and 1/3)

I went from 2x 24" monitors to a 34" UW and wish I'd done it sooner

Yes, just to add, love my Alienware 34" Ultrawide. Highly recommended.

Mine's a cheapy LG. It has it's own version of FancyZones called OnScreen Control - which is also available on the Mac.

When working it's connected to the work laptop, otherwise it's attached to my Mac Mini. I just use the input switcher.

One regreat I do have, is I understand there are some PiP options - and that may have been useful.

Currently look at this : https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-38gn950-b-gaming...

4 months interest free from Laptop Direct to soften the blow...

Although not sure if it will be a worthy replacement for my trusty Asus ROG Swift.

https://rog.asus.com/uk/monitors/27-to-31-5-inches...

edit: The ROG is my gaming monitor, currently using x2 27" for work. If I do get ultrawide plan is to replace gaming monitor once covid is over and I'm no longer WFH.
