The thought just popped into my head. Is it possible to connect your mobile to the router and have it ring like a house phone. I found that Fritzbox hardware can do this with an app but I couldn't see anything for general use. It might be that I am not searching for the right words though as I have never thought of it before.

If your phone and your network supports it you can set up WiFi calling which does exactly this.

iPhones work particularly well with no additional apps required. Android compatibility is a bit more flaky requiring either a separate app, or firmware provided via the network (rather than an unlocked device receiving updates directly from the phone manufacturer).

I don't think it's that complicated on Android - as long as your handset and network support it, you just need to switch it on in the settings.

Can depend on the variant of android - I set it up on my Oneplus 7 Pro, was finding some odd call connectivity issues, looked at the official forum to find it was a common theme and down to calling over wifi having been turned on - turned it off and my problems went again.

Thanks for the info! I had no idea.

Butl it seems that my Samsung a3 2017 doesn't have that menu so may be I need to consider a new phone.
Is it pretty standard on new phones?

Have a google for it - some times it's left to the provider and if bought outside of one the option may not be visible. This was the case with my OnePlus 7 Pro. Models bought through phone contracts often had the option available, but direct from them you had to download and install an official OnePlus patch to enable the functionality.

Wi-Fi calling is generally only available through EE, Vodafone, O2, 3 and BT. I think Virgin Mobile may have started doing it recently, but it a one of the perks the networks like to keep for their direct customers as opposed to the resale customers like Giffgaff and Tesco etc.

It works on 3 as well... straight out of the box on a Android handset from their network (my personal phone Huwaei P30Pro)

The phone I use for work is a repurposed 3 Android handset (Huwaei Mate20pro) rather than the turd work issues, but seems to give me wifi calling quite happily when I dont get VoLTE on EE.
