Hi all

The battery level on my phone went off a cliff this morning losing over 50% just in the few hours I was sat at my desk

I was connected to a bluetooth speaker which I assumed was the cause of the power drain, but I've just checked the battery usage app and it seems that the Google app was to blame

So what could it be that caused this because I don't use the google app?

Or is it as I suspected that the Bluetooth was the cause but it's just classed under the Google app for some reason?

Thanks in advance guys smile

(Phone is an Xperia 5 II if that matters)

Depends really - were you playing media to the speaker?
I use Google Podcasts, but even though people think it's a different app it's actually built into the main Google app, but has its own icon to launch it. Using G Podcasts will report the battery usage as coming from the Google app, and not anywhere else.

So was the phone doing anything in that time, or just sitting there in standby?

Google had a big outage earlier today for its Android app - wonder if the phone was constantly trying to poll back to the mothership.

Not sure if this is applicable to yourself, but If you are using a Samsung android device, then there was an issue with the Android System WebView app because of an update yesterday.

It was causing multiple apps to crash and battery issues.

Update the app via Google play and all should be good.

Media on and off, but from Spotify/Podcast Republic, not Google

Yea mostly on standby, but as you can see the next most used app was Twitter but not for very long with a fraction of the battery usage

Nah it's a Sony, but that could still be it

I like this theory

I'll see if it does it again tomorrow, I'll probably have the same routine

Thanks for the input guys, it's not the biggest inconvenience at the moment when stuck at home, I was more curious than I was annoyed
