Nord VPN, needs login via it's website,defeating the purpose

As above, a while back Nord VPN updated its software which now means your made to login via its website whereas before you logged in locally on the device, yes it may have sent a request to check credentials in the background but now it takes you to a webpage to login, sort of defeating the purpose if web browser/s/ing is blocked.

I did uninstall it and put on an older version which logs in locally but the software nags to update to latest which i understand why; but then your back to logging in via their website.

What are your thoughts on this, in favour? or is it a retrograde step?
