I use a USB GPS dongle and Autoroute 2004, not cause it's the best just because it's what I've got. The two main problems are the low update speed in Autoroute (can be hacked) and the fact that Autoroute doesnt speak to you, so you have to keep looking down at the screen. It depends how you are with maps really, if you can take the odd glance and be 99% sure where your going its fine but if your the kind that needs to turn the laptop upside down and stare with your tongue out for a minute then speaky stuff would be best
Infomap Navigator looks the dogs, looks like TomTom but for a proper laptop. Havent tried it myself though: www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod1354.html
Also, in hindsight, I wish I'd got a 'proper' GPS unit with a screen so I could go Geo-caching - they're down to the 100 squid mark now which isnt much more than I origionally paid for the USB dongle
Have fun

Ta . On that same site though , I can't seem to find a USB GPS receiver , are they there somewhere ?
Also , where would I source American maps , more particularly West coast / Nevada sort of thing ?
If you go for the inforad speed scamera detector it will work as a gps aerial for up to 12 sats and plug via usb into your lappy
£80 is not that much more than a dedicated ubs gps thingy and it can spot scameras when not needed for use with the lappy..
