I bought a laptop last year and HP have just sent me the option to renew the warranty for a year.
Its £60. Does not seem like much money and I normally don't go for extended warranties but this seems fairly good value for a £1400 item.
However... has anyone made a claim? The fact its so cheap makes me wonder if its worth the paper its written on?
The warranty is not provided by HP - when you read the small print its provided by a 3rd party.

I don't think i've ever had a laptop failure that wasn't either hard drive, external ports, power supply, battery or hinges. The only issue that might be covered would be the hard drive, which is probably an ssd now so a lot less likely to go wrong, if not then probably less than £60 to replace.
Was it a UK consumer purchase, or a business purchase?
If it was a consumer purchase, then you have up to 6 years from purchasing the item to claim a repair/replacement. Although it gets more difficult to prove a manufacturing fault (over user error) at 5 years 11 months than it will be at 13 months.
The HP Care Packs just tend to give you additional benefits over your consumer rights (e.g. 'enhanced' technical support via phone, collect & repair, etc.) - you can price your's up on the HP site here.
Even HPs Care Pack information says the same about your rights and this enhanced product:

Hmmm.....for a consumer, it's pretty well impossible at any time. I did get Dell to change a display at 3yrs but the fault (poor soldering) was widely reported on the web.Sheepshanks said:

True. It's okay to have the law behind you, but most people won't bother following it up if it's for a cheap/throwaway item - or will consider £50 fairly cheap insurance for a couple of year's enhanced support/warranty.
Even then, some of the extended warranties are made purposely difficult to claim on..."Sorry sir, your claim is denied as you didn't bring your device in for our free mandatory annual healthcheck. Yes sir, we know the service was closed for a year due to COVID, but that's not our problem!"

I bought an HP laptop at the end of 2018, spent roughly £1100 from memory.
I too go the HP Care Pack messages, and chose to buy it towards the end of the first year and am glad I did. During the 12 month warranty extension, I have had to have the 4K touchscreen replaced, and later on a new hard drive. I also paid around £60 for the pack.
In my experience service was very good with initial support over the phone, and then speedy hardware repairs taking a handful of days on both occasions.
Overall a very positive experience and I'm glad I spent the £60. Obviously I would have preferred the faults hadn't developed in the first place, but that's life...
