I've used Autocad and Bricscad too for 30 odd years before retiring. I have a cad package on an old lap top but that is virtually knackered, bringing back downstairs it could just disintegrate, the screen from the base.
I need a simple cad programme to draft out a simple design for a front door area, I could just do it by hand but after 30 years of Cad, picking up a pencil and scale rule seems wrong somehow!
What's available as a download that won't be too dissimilar in terms of comment to Autocad or Bricscad?
thanks

Try 'Nanocad'. It'll read .dwg drawings and save to that format.
The interface is very similar to AutoCAD!!
And it's free

Fusion 360 is free for hobby use.

Just register and renew every 12 months :-)

Downloaded Sketch Up but found it frustrating
Dragged the old lap top out, propped up the screen, waited 15 minutes for it to warm up (didn't bother setting date and time) and opened up the proper CAD package on there. It's funny but it's three years since I used it, can remember the typed commands but memory of the icons is less so.

To be fair Sketchup is pretty crap.
Fusion360 is where it is at, at the moment especially if you ever get into 3d printing.

I use fusion 360 and have done for 3 years since retiring, used Catia and SDRC ideas during my working life.

LibreCAD is another alternative. I believe you can also open and edit AutoCAD files in it too.

I've just got into CAD for 3d printing. I tried a few different packages (I work in IT so not a computer spanner), I've found Fusion 360 by far the best and easiest to use.
