Microsoft keyboard and mouse

Hopefully a quick question to answer if possible.

I have purchased a Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for my work laptop, and wondered whether I can/should switch off when not in use to save battery life?

I believe they go into hibernation anyway after a while.

Those pages talk about 12-15 months of battery life. Maybe get some eneloop batteries to assuage your conscience when the original disposable ones expire?
