Google Assistant
Discussion
Somebody said "Hey Google" today, and my phone sprang to life. It's never done that before.
I asked Google how to turn off Google Assisrant and it told me to go to settings, all settings, general and turn off assistant. So I did.
Now, when I say "Hey Google", my phone still springs to life, but tells me that Google Assistant is turned off, and press here to turn it on.
How do I get it to just f
k off and leave me alone? It was fine yesterday.

Then it's;
More>>>Settings>>>Google Assistant>>>Voice Match
Turn off the "Hey Google" option.
Incidentally, once you train the voice model to that of your voice it prevents activation by others. Which would have avoided the accidental activation you experienced.

This is what you're told if you search the internrt, but IRL, there is no "Voice match" option.Then it's;

I don't want to train it to my voice, I want it to f
k off.Is your app up to date?
It's the exact same on my Pixel 2Xl, Samsung Tab A, and Nexus 6P.
I have it activated on my P2XL, but deactivated on the others, as all 3 tend to be turned on simultaneously, so I only want the assistant to respond on one device - not 3!
Why don't you post screenshots of the menus you are seeing on your device? If it's different from the standard/common menus most others are seeing there's not much people can do to help unless they see what you have.
ETA: This is only pure speculation -- but try re-enabling the Assistant from where you deactivated it before (your first post). Then follow the steps to deactivate the "Hey Google" feature which I listed above. See if it shows up at that stage...
If it does follow my steps, and you can then go back and deactivate the Assistant with whatever way you did it before.

I found it.
Setting/apps/google. Not Settings/google.
Then choose Permissions, and turn off the microphone permission. Turning off Google Assisrant doesn't stop the f
ker listening, you have to tell it it's not allowed to use the microphone as well!
All this stuff turned itself on without my interaction.
There's also a setting in Settings/google (not settings/apps/google) search, assistant & voice/Google assistant/devices/wired headphones which can't be turned off at all.

The reason some of the settings options are out of whack/unavailable is because of what you posted in your first post.
You just inadvertently did stuff in the wrong order. No biggie...
It is a right faff admittedly, but if you hadn't deactivated the Assistant first you could've just deactivated the "Hey Google" feature as outlined above and saved yourself hassle. Same with the headphones. You can't control Assistant settings if you have it deactivated.
As with everything - easy when you know how, not so easy otherwise...

Fair enough. I'm still pissed off that it turned itself on in the first place.You just inadvertently did stuff in the wrong order. No biggie...

And that is the problem with android stuff these days. It used to be simple but nowadays finding and changing settings is a right old pita. I'm no apple fanboi but I have to admire the simplicity of their menus compared to the geekfest that google/android has become.
I use it daily; notes, reminders, timers, alarms, podcast playback, music playback, voice command to call somebody or message them via Whatsapp (or a.n.other app), online queries and lookups where it's handy to just have the answer or synopsis called out to you as you're doing something else etc etc etc
I don't use too much smart home stuff, but lots of people use it for smart home controls.
What it can be used for and the list of stuff it currently integrates with is vast...
The reason I knew how to turn off the "Hey Google" feature is because I only need 1 device to respond, and not the 3 devices which are usually all on at the same time.

I've never used it, but (and therefore?) I can't think of a single way in which it would enhance my life.
So you've never needed to set a quick reminder or timer? Ever?
