It has been a very, very long time since I built websites. And they were handcrafted in HTML, Javascript, some back end ASP and using fireworks and dreamweaver templates for inheritance of the design.

I am being asked to create one as a favour and I would rather use something 'off the shelf'. They have their own server, with softaculous installer (i.e. lazy installation) and they have a pathological hatred of Wordpress (don't ask), what else is there? It'll be relatively static, 15 pages or so. Perhaps a blog.

Thanks for any guidance.

Much easier and cheaper to use something like Wix or GoDaddy

Template based, hosted by the supplier.

Our cycling club uses Wix, and I've made several.for different bands I've been in.

For basic static sites it is cheap as chips

Don't you have to pay monthly for ever for those things though?

Thank you, I looked at those. But I actually wanted to host it as I use the server for uploading photos etc..

Depends on whether you want to be stuck managing it forever & a day I'd think.

If not then something like Wordpress with an easy to use back end (maybe using something like the Divi theme/builder) would allow you to build it easily and then hand it over with a 1 hour lesson on how to make changes.

I work in IT and when the web was version 1.0 it was great fun to play with creating sites, but the older you get the more tedious this sort of thing gets so now I use Wix or Squarespace when I need a site for myself or friends.

Yes, just used the wayback machine to try and find some of mine from, goodness, 20 years ago. I was fanatical about the inheritance and not redoing work it seems. They look so 'basic' though.

Super easy, but you pay for it: Wix or something, as has been suggested. Never used it myself but I know people who have and it seems to be relatively foolproof

Much cheaper, if you go with an appropriate host, and with more control: Wordpress (or similar)

I've a similar history to you, having knocked up more than a few websites in Notepad back in the day. The sites I currently have are all Wordpress hosted by NearlyFreeSpeech, and because they get naff all traffic they cost me literal pennies per year.

Hai,

You can use Wordpress to build your site. Most hosting provider support this CMS, it is easy to use and you can build your site easily. For hosting provider, I would recommend Asphostportal. I've been with them for years, I can host both Asp and Wordpress site.
