Radio controlled vehicle for four year old

I wanted to buy some kind of radio controlled digger toy for my son, but none of the reviews are filling me with confidence - get the impression they can be unreliable, short battery life, or just plain noisy.

Any suggestions? I could go with a small RC car, but it'll be more fun for him if it's got some other function too, hence looking at diggers, cranes and dumper trucks. Would go up to £50+ if it's decent, i.e. something I would play with too..
