I love Call of Duty, but my 8 year old laptop struggles with anything more recent that Modern Warfare 3. I want to play all the other COD games up to and including the latest one so I need a new laptop. It has to be a laptop, I know I could build a decent PC but I don't want one. I am well out of date with graphics cards, so I don't know what is good and what isn't anymore.

1)I don't care what brand it is
2)I don't care if it is an AMD or Intel Processor
3)Must be SSD (I assume they all are now)
4)15.6 inch minimum, 17 inch would be better.
5)Must be able to play games at a decent frame rate and resolution.

I am prepared to go second hand if I can get a much better machine.

What is the best machine I can get for £1K?

Something like the GIGABYTE AORUS 17G is about £1500 with the following specs:
  • Intel Core i7-10750H Processor
  • 16GB RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti
  • 17.3 Inch FHD (1080p) 144hz IPS
So something similar for less cash?

Maybe something from the Dell/XPS/Alienware refurb/outlet, like this Alienware m15 R3 for £1250 (after latest discount code is applied):
  • Intel i7-10750H
  • 16GB Memory
  • 512GB PCIe M.2 NVMe
  • 15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz with NVIDIA G-SYNC Technology
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6GB GDDR6
or this Alienware m17 R3 for £1350 (after latest discount code is applied):
  • Intel i7-10750H
  • 16GB Memory
  • 1TB PCIe M.2 NVMe
  • 17.3 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz with NVIDIA G-SYNC Technology
  • NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR6
or this Dell G7 17 - 7790 for £1000 (after latest discount code is applied):
  • Intel i7-9750H
  • 16GB Memory
  • 256GB PCIe M.2 NVMe
  • 1TB HDD
  • 17.3 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz with NVIDIA G-SYNC Technology
  • NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1660Ti 6GB GDDR6

I bought an Asus Rog Strxy G15 last Novemeber for £1099. 10th Gen i7, 16Gb DDR4, 512mb SSD, 144hz screen 15.6, GeForce RTX 2060 6gb. That runs Fortnite with settings on Epic at 144FPS easily. If I take the limit off it will push 160FPS. Realise Fortnite is not the most demanding game though.

It doesnt seem available. If you can stretch a little more this has a good spec

£1000 is pretty much the maximum I want to spend. It seems that the GTX 1660 ti is pretty much the best you are going to get for under 1K with a 17 inch screen?

This has the RTX 2060, would this be faster than the above?

Or would this be good enough to play the latest COD game?

The graphics/processors on both of those are fine for 1080p gaming.

The Acer has 16gb RAM, a small SSD and no HDD - but has a decent GPU and a 17" screen.

The Lenovo only has 8gb RAM, a small SSD, no HDD and smaller 15.6" screen - but has the better GPU and CPU (about 20% better in both cases).

Both of those SSDs would fill up quite quickly.

So after much procrastination I still haven't bought anything. I came very close to buying the following laptop until I read that the 250 nits 120HZ screen is absolute rubbish.

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gam...

My mum has a recent Lenovo non gaming laptop and it is clear they have compromised on the screen and it is not very bright and the colours are all washed out.

To get the same laptop with the better screen is £1200 and frankly I wasn't looking to spend that much.

Then I saw that Laptop direct have the following laptop with a 1660ti, 144HZ screen and an i5-10300H for £629, It is grade A refurbished, but apparently that grading means just the box has been open.

https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/grade-a1-acer-nitr...

I want to play Call of Duty Modern Warfare (the 2019 version), Ghosts Cold War, Battlefield V and GTA V which I understand this laptop could easily do.

I would be much happier spending £600 instead of £1200, but is this a false economy in the long run?

Needs another 8GB of memory preferably - might also be in single channel so will hurt frame rates.
One on dell outlet if you can stretch to £858
