Hi

What is best ?

I have an Ipad, I'd like to cast the screen to my Sony Tele - principally Netflix. But obviously the netflix on my Ipad is using a vpn and watching US or UK content (I am in the Netherlands)

I can't set up NordVPN on my router, I can't cast to the screen for VPN content and basically haven't found a solution.

But one must be out there. What am I missing ?

If your VPN provider has an Android supported app then get a firestick and connect that to the VPN before running Netlfix or iPlayer on it would be the easiest and quickest way I would think.

Either that or get a long old iPad to HDMI cable.

Not tried Netflix but I'm using the NordVPN app on a Chromecast with Google TV to watch Prime and iPlayer. I had previously used a Firestick but I much prefer the Chromecast

VPNs will (normally) reroute all traffic, so your issue is that casting requires a local network connection to work. When your iPad is on VPN, all traffic is encapsulated, preventing that local connection. Screencasting requires a local connection, so your iPad won't be able to see other devices on your network.

Your only choice here will be to use a HDMI cable to make it work, OR get a router that will support a VPN connection.

I think he means that once the Apple TV is routing via the VPN, it won't pick up the local iPad on the local network?

I think it is once the Ipad is connected to the VPN it then can't also connect to Apple TV.

If my apple box is connected directly via HDMI to the TV, can it connect to the VPN directly.

The goal here is to get the show to play over the TV, I can already watch it on the Ipad, I just want it on the main TV.

but you wouldn't need the iPad in this scenario as you'd have the Apple TV, connected to via VPN and then just use the Netflix app on the Apple TV itself?!

In Switzerland we use - iPhone with NordVPN, mirror the screen to Apple TV. Works fine for iplayer etc.

Yes, that would be logical..

Yep. New Chromecast, Firestick or Apple TV are the answer. Run the VPN app on the device and control with the remote rather than finding content on your tablet and casting it. Chromecast and Firestick both have Netflix, Prime, etc apps, not familiar with Apple TV but I assume it's similar.

I frequently use a VPN to watch F1 on a European stream, and cast it from either my laptop or desktop to chrome cast TV. Both run on windows though. Can also cast when using VPN from my Android tablet.

Netflix always blocks VPN in my case, when trying to use it in USA or elsewhere. Can only log in using local IP which then has the territorial restrictions.

There’s an app called Replica which can cast your phone or iPad screen. The quality isn’t perfect, but it does a passable job.

Thats why I put the normally in my comment above. Some VPNs encapsulate all traffic for complete security, or you can allow local addresses to bypass the VPN.
