Telly on the blink
Discussion
TV is about 10 years old, it start blinking after about 20 minutes and it would get worse and worse. It happened across all devices, free view, virgin, amazon. Bought a new TV today, went to get a LG but were out of stock, bought a cheapo Chinese one, works great on free view via the antenna but continues to blink on virgin via the box
I guess something wrong with the virgin box but why would the old TV malfunction while watching the other platforms

Is the Virgin box a purchase or a rental? (sorry, don't know about virgin's policy)
If it's a rental, just request a replacement?
Can't harm as there's usually a new version out every now and then that's a bit better than the one you have.

There is a later version but chances are on a fault issue they will replace same for same.
I'm assuming the OP has the V6 box. If he has an earlier Samsung then there is a strong likelihood almost a dead cert he will get a V6 box instead
On some faults they will simply send a replacement out which can be delivered (they favour it) to a local 8 till late type convenience place. On some faults they send an engineer.
As the poster above says there is every likelihood of it being the HDMI cable
If by "blink on" you mean power on and off it may be down to a difference in implementation of the HDMI standard that allows connected devices to power down the TV.
I'd guess the Virgin box or a cable fault is / was sending a power down signal / command to the old TV which responded to it regardless of input but the newer one is clever enough to ignore it unless that device is the active signal - would prevent something like a games console going into standby interrupting a live broadcast for example.
