Printer advice please

Hi all,
I have a cheap black & white laser printer, 3 years old, just packed up. It switches on okay but won't print anything. I've tried the usual closing the lids on it, re-seating the toner cartridge and checking for jammed paper. Nothing. Just an orange light.
It's only about £40 new so probably not even worth taking it to a repair shop.
What would you do?

If you only print B&W documents, get a B&W laser printer.
If you only print colour documents, with no photos, get a colour laser printer.
If you print photos regularly, and not much else, get a decent inkjet.
Or get a colour laser printer for home, and send your photos to Asda/Tesco/Costco/etc. out for professional printing.
I still use an Epson Photo XP860 (4-in-1) inkjet, and probably print something at least once a week - and it's not clogged up in the 6 years I've had it. Ink is very expensive though (almost £100/set), and I've probably paid more in ink than a decent colour laser would have cost for the same period & number of prints.
I'd treat the very cheap end of the printer market as consumables - whether that's a £40 laser or a £40 inkjet. You'd expect longer life & better performance from a £200+ one of course..but budgets sometimes limit our choices.

Another vote here for a B+W laser printer if you only print B+W documents.
Laser printers are not good for images - but they're blindingly quick for text - and toner works out pretty cheap.
Bought one of these for about £90 12 months ago as we needed to be able to print "work stuff" at home - been a god send, and has worked seamlessly with laptops / chromebook / phones / ipad.
