Hi, just replaced my phone and going through the apps I use. I have used Waze for the last few years, its generally good but got me lost a few times a few weeks ago...
What's the current favourite amongst the PH crowd? Don't want anything complicated, just a simple to use on the move app.
Thanks in advance

Thanks, that's a couple of nods for Google Maps, hadn't realised that had a sat nav option, although have seen the directions thing on the lap top obviously..

I assume people referring to “Wave” actually mean “Waze”

Powered and owned by Google Maps but with more features.

Thanks for that. I haven't used it since Corfu last September. I'll have to update and see what happens.

Waze for local journeys, to get around traffic on a commute for example
Google Maps for longer journeys

Data is somewhat irrelevant, they both barely use any, and getting real time traffic info is vital imo.

I prefer Google Maps because I find Waze a bit distracting. Maps shows speed limits and speed cameras, not sure what else you want it to do.

Tried Waze but found childish police warnings and graphics too much after a while. On a couple of phones it crashed on long journeys (just at key moments normally)

Google Maps does a fair job although not very customisable

Have tried Amigo from TomTom and it seems to do a decent job. Feels a bit like Waze crossed with TomTom but without the nonsense

For installed maps/no data I used CoPilot for a very long time. About £30 for a lifetime subscription plus £10 per year for active traffic. Only stopped using it because they changed it so the standard version works for cars only whereas it used to have an option for large vehicles. You now have to buy the expensive truck version for any larger than car options

Always used Google Maps without issue. Tried Waze a few years back and wasn’t a fan of the interface and icons but that’s likely just personal preference.

Also I believe Waze and GM share the same data so if someone reports a speed trap on Waze it also appears on Google Maps. It gave me the exact location of 2 camera vans and how many had reported it on the A303 when I was heading down to Cornwall last week.

Who me ?

Here/here we go. Downloads map to your phone, so it works off-line and only uses satellite to advise ,

Google maps can download maps for offline use and apparently if you set directions whilst on wifi it will do voice directions offline as well. I've tried a few and always come back to google as it just works and has up to date info.

I always use Google Maps on my phone, even over the built in sat nav.

Done multiple long trips to unfamiliar places and always been spot in. As others have said, you can download the map for the area you want before use to save data.

Also flags up speed cameras (accurately) in my experience, including mobile units.

A good tip is to save the map area your going to for offline use on Google Maps.

When I did the NC500, I saved the highlands for offline use, worked fine. Don't know if you can do that on Waze.

Maps also knows the connection deadspots on your route, so it will automatically download those bits when it can, so you'd probably find that you only need the offline map very sparingly or if you decide to go somewhere else mid-route.

The other thing to consider is Android Auto integration, I'm sure they all integrate these days, I've not used anything but Maps in years, but if you're using your phone in the car, setup Android Auto as well.

Google maps, with offline maps for core/lowsignal area, for me.

However what I would like is the ability to drag and drop the route about on my phone, like you can on the computer, for when I'm out in the kitcar and or vintage car, and 'avoid motorways' isnt enough to keep you off the three lane dual carriageway!
