When capturing streaming video from my DV camcorder to my WinXP SP2 PC I am losing frames, leaving me with a jerky result.
I'm connecting via Firewire to a 1.1GHz PC with 512MB RAM, with approx 40GB spare disk space. Using bundled Nero software to capture.
Do I need more RAM/faster processor to prevent this?
Thanks chaps.

I started getting a similar problem on my laptop after I changed the disk drive. I haven't solved it, but think I need a faster processor or a faster disk or both.

troubleshooting steps:

1) Defrag HD and try again
- if no joy -
2) Try importing to AVI with Windows MM
- If MM imports ok, then you have a Nero issue -

Id say that both your processor is too small and also you havent enough ram.

Swapping to 1GB of RAM would be my first choice, as my old laptop a long with 1GB was fine

I had some small isees with capturing and then changing video, I solved it by installing a seconfd HDD and using it as a scratch disk seperate from the program software/os

thanks guys, i think i'll try the RAM upgrade 1st, and also kill any unrequired processes. i have an old HDD that i might also install to keep it separate from Windows.
