Excellent tech support ticket
Discussion
I have been dealing with the Synology tech support for a few days with a silly little issue where by all of my folders on my NAS are visible to all users even if those folders are not accessible by them. For example I have an account for my wife who has access to her folder, but she can see all folders on my drive.. but it not able to access them....
This is what Synology came back with...
Thank you for coming back to me.
Unfortunately this is a limitation of Finder itself, I can only advise to contact Apple for them to advise if there is a way on the Mac device to hide these, or alternatively you may wish to look into using a Windows computer which does not share this limitation.
errrr... no thanks

Whats your problem?
use Apple, find out another manufacturers stuff is not 100% compatible withApple and complain, no surprises there.
Apple works fantastically well with Apple stuff, Microsoft works with most other 'generic' stuff out there - end of
Just as helpful as the Synology tech support response!! use Apple, find out another manufacturers stuff is not 100% compatible withApple and complain, no surprises there.

OP - I think this might actually just be a thing. (So whilst not exactly helpful from Synology, it might be true). And other people seem to have the same problem. https://www.synoforum.com/threads/how-can-i-hide-s...
I'm not super familiar with Synology, but you may be able to work around it.
If you are sharing it like:
OurSharedFolder
-- thebraketester stuff
----- folder 1
----- folder 2
----- things Id rather the wife didnt see see
-- thewifes stuff
----- folder 1
----- folder 2
You might be able to create separate 'drives'/folders like this instead
thebraketester stuff ('top level' drive/share)
-- folder 1
-- folder 2
-- things Id rather the wife didnt see see
thewifes stuff ('top level' drive/share)
-- folder 1
-- folder 2

k is wrong with this place these days? This issue if it is actually an issue makes sense, if you're both sharing a folder you both need to be able to see what flowers are there otherwise one of you might try to create a folder with the same name as an existing folder.
The actual answer is to set up a share each on the synology.

That is what I have done. But for some reason macOS shows even the non-shared folders due to limitations with the OSThe actual answer is to set up a share each on the synology.

Access based enumeration is a Windows thing, the service desk guy was never going to be able to change that. How would you have preferred he answer the question?
He answered it fine… it’s was the “just use a PC” bit that just made me laugh. It’s a non issue for me but I can imagine that in some instances folders being visible to certain users would be a huge issue…
