Staying in a woodland lodge and it seems that our internet connection is being supplied by some form of local wireless solution.

Just out of interest does anyone know what this is? And a rough idea of cost. Have a couple of friends who are looking at this and the speed and quality (stability) of the connection seem really good.

It's a Ubiquiti Unifi device. Hard to know which one specifically as it is probably no longer current, but it looks like an antenna connected to an AirMax wireless backhaul unit.

Technically not UniFi, it’s a different product range.

What are your friends looking to achieve?

Looks like they will shortly be getting a fast fibre connection to the main house on their property (working farm) and trying to weigh up the most cost effective way of distributing it to a number of outbuildings. Copper and Fibre cabling are both options.

Depending on the cost/performance of these units it may be an easier option than the cost of digging trenches and the equipment at each end.

Nothing that requires a huge amount of bandwidth - I recon 40-80 Mbps would be fine .

I’d they can I’d personally go copper or fibre, if they’re going point to multipoint (I.e. farmhouse to a number of sheds with direct line of sight) then take a look here: https://www.ui.com/uisp/multipoint

As above a point-to-multipoint solution using Ubiquiti Airmax kit is a good option. Can be as simple as using a Nanostation AP and then Locos on each building. Probably a lot easier/cheaper than running in cables. A goosd set-up can be rock solid.

You have a sector antenna and what looks like a Rocket station, that's some kit so you are likely some distance from the access point
