Help please - damaged Motherboard LGA 1200 socket?
Discussion
Hi all, just picked up what I thought was a bargain ASUS TUF Gaming Z490 Plus Wifi motherboard, but it arrived with what looks to my amateur eyes to be a damaged CPU socket?
It's an Intel 10th Gen LGA 1200 socket and I think all of those pins should be perfectly uniform?
There's one area with several pins that look out of shape and also one odd pin slightly higher up in the picture.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal? The board was sold as "New"!
Thanks!

Knackered.
Someone probably bought another one and returned their damaged one in the same box.
It's weird - the box it came in shows no signs of damage so I can't see how that got damaged during shipping. I don't understand why you'd try and sell it on though - it's clearly not going to work and anyone buying a motherboard on its own is very likely to see it's damaged.Someone probably bought another one and returned their damaged one in the same box.
That just lit a lightbulb - it was sold as new, but it's not. There's residue from where a previous CPU was installed and the protective cover for that socket was outside of the anti-static bag the board was shipped in.
Very fishy.
Was it a retailer on eBay?
Chances are they are oblivious to the damage. It might have been returned like that, and they just sold it on as "open box". They may have inspected it but not noticed the damage because they didn't look closely enough.
I would not be surprised if someone bought 2 of these from the retailer, and returned the one that they broke when installing the CPU. I have also heard of people ordering things like this from Amazon and then returning it (switching their knackered board in), because the likes of Amazon don't check these things fastidiously, record serial numbers, etc.
