Wireless charging pads?
Discussion
It’s the size of the coil. Most only have one coil and the pad is dictatated by this size
You can get some larger pads with multiple coils but they’re mega expensive in comparison and generate vast volumes of heat. I use a cheap pad from Rymans that was £3, the last I looked at a larger pad similar to what you want it was over £250
As an example Apple was developing exactly what you wanted (AirPower IIRC) but it was canned due to dangerous heat levels
If you have an MagSafe iPhone though young wouldn’t need a big pad as the coil “snaps” onto the phone

I saw a pad that was like a 12" square, when you put your phone on it the coil basically moved to find your phone. It looked decent, but it wasn't really refined enough. Eg if you put two phones on it it'll charge one of them only, rather than getting around to both one way or another.

I have a Samsung pad on my bedside table which is big enough for three devices (watch, phone and airpods in theory) but even so I find if I don't place the phone correctly it won't charge and it cost around £80 if I recall correctly.
I have never noticed it get hot
it won't get particularly hot as there are only 3 coils in this example - what the OP wants is a layered coil approach where there are somewhere upwards of 30 overlapping coils and this is where extreme heat is generated.I have never noticed it get hot

Take a look in Settings under Battery Health and see if optimised charging is set to on. If it is, your iPhone only charges to the level it thinks it needs
Yes, that was on. Thank you for the help.Worryingly my battery capacity is only 92% which doesn’t sound great for less than a year old.
my experience of wireless charging is that it is s
te. It's slow, wastes a lot of energy in heat, is very sensitive to things like cases and phone position, and the equipment seems to wear out. You can't even use your phone whilst it's charging. Superfast charging is now available anyway and I can get 50% charge in 30 mins on a cable.

Yes, you can. I’m typing this on a phone that is wirelessly charging.Blown2CV said:

Yes, you can. I’m typing this on a phone that is wirelessly charging. Now, whether the charging pad is where you want it is a different issue.
I have one that is flat, you can operate phone.
I have one that is upright, you can operate phone.
I also, for added bonus, have magsafe one that stays with phone whilst you move it around - so quite like a wired cable......
I aslo, for added bonus 2, have normal cable so can plug in.
There are pros and cons of all options. Either way, the phone still operates when charging (whichever method) and your post could imply to some readers that the phone is inoperable whilst wirelessly charging....
