Time for a new business laptop!
Discussion
What are the PH commendations?
Sub £1k inc vat (cheaper if possible)
Good range of ports or external dock (inc price)
Windows10 Pro
Good ram
512gb or 1T SSD
Ideally after a bit of an update from my 5year old HP 2in1. Dont need a 2in1 and would prefer a mid sized screen, although i use an external monitor, keyboard and mouse when at desk. Away less and less now.
Actually a mini desk top might be best and keep the laptop for when out and about/service & programming. I have all files on dropbox, webshop is completely on cloud and the Note20 Ultra phone i am typing this on as a brilliantly portable device.

Laptop - Dell Outlet
Desktop - ebay/Amazon refurbished SFF Dell Optiplex 7020/7030/7040/9020/9030/9040
New desktops are a waste of money unless you are doing something really intensive eg CAD/graphics/editing. For most work a 4th gen i5 is perfectly adequate. Lots of RAM & an SSD of course.

I've liked Dell stuff. But the two Dell laptops I have at the moment seem to have the worlds noisiest fans and run them full blast at the faintest sign you might be doing anything (like say a zoom call where you really don't want fans running full blast).Desktop - ebay/Amazon refurbished SFF Dell Optiplex 7020/7030/7040/9020/9030/9040

Now...perhaps all modern laptops are like that. I don't know. But it's irritating.

I've had a series of ThinkPads - none particularly high spec, currently have a T14 Gen1 with Intel i5, and it doesn't do the mad fan thing.Now...perhaps all modern laptops are like that. I don't know. But it's irritating.
There's lots of great things about ThinkPads but the one negative is the displays can be iffy. You used to be able to work around that by configuring your own spec but increasingly they just offer a standard configuration. The one I have now for some reason was offered with a 400nit display and it's great. But as standard they can be as low as 250. A few models ago I sent one back as it was just awful.
Mine was about 40% off in a bank holiday sale but I have a feeling they messed up as that's an usual level of discount on ThinkPad, especially bearing in mind the upgraded display.

Are they XPS laptops?
Work is a "Dell Latitude 7400" (but yes it's a small thing, and I suspect that's 1/2 the issue there). Home is a G7 which is a bigger case, but potential for lots of heat to be generated, and it does take a bit more to noticeably kick the fans in on that, but that could be a zoom call and downloading a few GB of game. That'd have the fans full blast.Like I say, I've nothing to compare them too, but for work I'd really like a quieter laptop and the OP might want to consider how to make that happen...if possible.

You got me looking at Dells now. Had some ages ago as desktops and was happy with those.
This is very interesting, especially with the 20% discount.

Any comments. - I know it is an older gen, but spec is very good.

To late, I went for it!
Because I also found a cash back and 35% discount code on Quidco.
And their refurb site applies the discount wrongly. It is doing a 35% of the full RRP and applying it to the Ex Vat price!
So that is a £950 i7 QuadCore, 512SSD, 16GB RAM laptop for £550!!!
In true PH parlance - Fisted that Kumquat!
