Clueless Fool In Need Of Advise
Discussion
I'll be the first to admit, I know nothing about computers/laptops other than how to use the basics.
I'm starting my new job soon and in need of a new laptop for it as my current Panasonic Toughbook is going back.
Can someone suggest on what's best with my basic requirements;
-Reasonably sized, not needed for field work just home
-Windows 10
-To include word, excel already ideally
It's to use basic Microsoft programs, emailing and a bit of online surfing.
I don't do gaming or anything like that.
Budget wise, upto £600 perhaps but less is preferably, but I don't want to cheap out for something that will be terribly slow or only last a year or so.
Hopefully that covers the basics, apologies in the vagueness of it

Dell Outlet is a good starting point.
It is difficult to guess what you mean by "for work". Typically work laptops run Windows 10 Pro and connect to their network. This costs more. But typically work would supply those, and Office.
If you mean a laptop to run at home for a bit of work communications you can pick from the Outlet for Home like this for £468

Office is £60 (single) or £80 (whole family) per year
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/buy/...
If you really mean you have to buy your own "Pro" laptop, this is similar for £560

Dell Outlet is a good suggestion. If you can decide on a screen size (12"/14"/15"/17") then that narrows down the options & then decide if you need Windows 10 Pro or if Home will do. If you are going to be logging on to a work domain then I'm pretty sure you need the Pro version. Other than that an i5 processor with at least 8Gb of RAM & a 256Gb SSD/M2 drive (although I prefer a bit more space & go for 512Gb).
This is the filtered list for the Home laptops with 15" models selected - you can play with the filters at the top. You'll see the £468 model is in there, although it's a rather fluid page as they can get sold quite quickly.

There is also a business section with different machines but be careful as the prices are ex-VAT:
