I'm having real trouble recently with Waze on Apple Carplay.

Waze goes into a Sleep mode now and often when I tap on the app on the car screen to use Waze it'll have my position frozen and won't update unless I unlock the phone and open Waze or force close Waze on the phone. I have reported it to Waze and they don't see a problem even with the logs I've sent.

It never used to do this and only seems to have started since IOS changed and Waze added the sleep mode into the app.

Anyone else have the issue and if so a workaround?

p.s. My carplay is wireless so the phone never leaves my pocket. All other apps work fine including Apple maps and Google maps - just prefer Waze when it works.

I find it has a multitude of things go wrong, regularly

I have the freezing thing
I have the have to unlock the phone thing - I have to kill Waze then reopen it and programme it on the phone and then it sorts itself out

most annoying is the navigate to somewhere, and even if the phone remains in the car, doors unlocked etc, on restarting Waze gives a blank screen

Often too a moving map, but no ability to use any functionality as the screen doesn't respond

Multiple vehicles with a mix of wireless and cabled carplay. We both have iPhone 11 on the latest firmware

I've had issued with Waze when I've gone off the app on the phone or unplugged it and then reconnected it. Either the map won't update or blank screen. This is wired connection with iPhone XR.

Frustrating because Google Maps works flawlessly every time for me!

Had this recently. Update the Waze App on your phone and then click into applications and allow it to work in the background.

You could also try updating the firmware on your car.

Not sure what kind of car you have, but with Ford Sync 3 it's really quite easy. Go onto the website, put in the chassis number, download a file, unzip it a USB stick, put the USB stick in the car and go for a drive. About 30 minutes later - an upgraded system. No need to visit the dealer. Really quite impressive.

Yep same happens to me occasionally. Also does always display the bit with time of arrival etc. Don’t think it has anything to do with car firmware it’s a Waze/Apple issue and is fairly recent

Same here. I've used Waze for years but until whatever the update was, and switching to an Iphone 12 pro, everytime i open Waze it either freezes or opens up from my last location when i used waze which could be the other side of the country.

it always show it 'finding signal' or words to that effect. so i have to manually force close it on my iphone, re open it, and it works a treat. Quite annoying but i've just got used to it now rightly or wrongly.

Thanks again and I’ll try omniplays suggestion as I use a carplay2air adaptor to do the wireless CarPlay bit and you can update it.
