Currently have a Nokia 7.1 which has served me very well for the last 2.5 years I think. It wasn't expensive by standards at the time (around £230 IIRC) but more than adequately did the job - calls, texts, GMail, Facebook, Instagram, Spotify and Strava, that's about it. It's starting to show signs that it could be on the way out, battery life deteriorating, the power button often needs a very firm press or multiple presses to register, general system performance is getting slow.

I'm a bit out of touch with the different brands etc. so thought I'd ask here, what's a decent potential replacement for around the £200-£300 range? Other than the apps I mentioned above, the only other feature I'm really keen to retain is the fingerprint scanner on the rear.

I would personally go for a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro

6GM RAM, 6.67 inch AMOLED screen and 128GB of storage for £229

The fingerprint scanner is on the side from what I understand.

They will probably steal all your data and give it to the Chinese government but what the hell.

I have just been given a 4a by work to replace my OnePlus 6T. When it arrived I took the 4a out of the box, switched it on, switched it off and put it in the cupboard.

It is absolutely tiny and feels like a toy to me.

Blackview for something that won't break when you drop it, and/or with a colossal battery.

I got a BV9500pro a year or two ago as I was fed up with a Samsung Note's battery going flat when I was using it for navigation while hill walking, and waterproof cases were a massive pain. The new phone has been epic. It's hefty, but it's waterproof, withstands being dropped on concrete, and will happily run Viewranger for a couple of days between recharges.
