It seems my Brother DCP-J4120D has st its memory or similar.
The damn thing struggles to think about printing anything, from any pc / device in any format.
I will 'copy' so I firmly think the issue is with the receiving and managing the process. I would guess internal RAM?
(fixes welcome after Googlefu has failed)

So :

In the market for a home office all in one. Occasional need to print photos, occasional need to print A3 (manual feed), but really would like to have a document feeder on the lid for scanning up to 10/20 pages (fking NDA's are a ball ache)

Its to fit in a cubby hole 30cm high so cant be a monster in size.
If I can use my Brother ink colour cartridges left in stock - super. If not c'est la vie.

Who has a goiod printer to suit the bill? Up to £150 is what I was budgeting but can be flexible on that.

Don't really know about a specific model but i would strongly advise that you avoid inkjets if at all possible.

Colour lasers are fairly cheap now and the toner doesn't 'dry up' if you don't use it from one week to the next and you get 20x the number of prints,

edited to add - we recently purchased a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fnw A4 Colour Multifunction Laser Printer - Yes, it's not A3 but that's where the price jumps significantly. Fantastic printer.

Also thanks.

Hole upgrades or reconfig of the home office look likely if I can't find a solution then..... Guess I could go old school and head to PC world etc to view them...

If you can do without the A3

Then a HP Deskjet 4120e - amazon do it with 6 months of instant ink for £65 about £100 cheaper than the toner needed for the laser

Document feeder etc.

Manual feed to print both sides ( but i do it so rarely now )

Wifi setup is a pain ( usual mess of having to swap wifi ) but works well

That's great for business graphics etc but no laser can do anything beyond 'utterly naff' for photo printing.

Inkjets do indeed suffer from 'drying out' if you're an infrequent user, however...

They've come out with something now called 'MegaTank'

I have this one:

https://www.canon.co.uk/printers/pixma-g6050/

Rather than having stupid itty bitty little cartridges that you have to faff about with, these come with in-built tanks that you fill up with huge bottles. It'll never run dry unless you leave it for like 10 years, I haven't yet had to refill it either and I print a fair bit.

This one isn't A3 though, I was just trying to make the point that ink-jet isn't necessarily a bad thing anymore.

Ah I did se that one today - or a variant it must have been with the Feeder on the top

I did wonder whether we / I would print enough for a ‘mega tank’

Other than Amazon return labels and alike what do we print these days biggrin

Avoid HP and go with a decent Canon, I have an Canon All in One cost about £120, great quality scanner and quality document print outs. I also have an A3 Canon for heavy ink or photographs cost about £280 but still going strong aft 3 years.

I had a big HP A3 while at uni and it must have returned and replaced about 2-3 times in my 2nd year, always jamming and saying printer head was blocked.

I got an Epson SX235W about 9 years ago, Cost £35.
Scans and copies as well as usual printer functions. Wireless.
Not good at photos , but if you don’t need them, this does everything you need for next to nothing.
£10 worth of compatible cartridges off eBay , lasts a year.
( Maybe this has been replaced by a newer model).

I have 3 of these, they put out an update last year that prevents you from using non HP ink. There is a way around it but it’s a ballache. You need to use a downgrade file and turn off automatic updates. Other than that they’ve been great!
