I want a reasonably sized phone for very infrequent phone / text and email via wifi. It has to be network unlocked so I can fit my pay as you go sim. Having looked it seems that if you want WiFi (for the emails) the case becomes quite cumbersome. The device I have been using is an old HTC which is around 100cm x 55 cm. In an ideal world you would hope more recent devices to do the same job would be smaller and lighter but it appears not.

Is there anything reasonably priced or will I have to seek something second hand ?

Thats a pretty epic sized phone!

Assuming you are out by a factor of 10, what HTC is only 10cm by 5cm??

There's a few discussed in this thread about small phones -
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Not sure if any go quite that small mind.

The GSM Arena shows 8 results
https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nHeightMax=1...
And only a couple of Alcatel flip phones and the "Palm Palm" of those were released in the past 3 years.

Realistically I think you need to drop the wifi requirement and go for a dumb phone that has email, but I'm not sure any of them actually do?

if it's for "very infrequent" use, what does the size matter?

This is about the smallest (92x42mm), usable one I can find that has all the functions you wanted, although if you're happy with your current phone why not not keep using it?

Unihertz Jelly Pro @ £94

However, if it needs to fit into a very small orifice, then maybe this is the better option...

It's probably a horrible device, but I'm sure you can buy something from China like this:

I had a similar requirement recently though size is not an issue, I needed a phone to use in one of my voluntary roles. It was unlikely to be used frequently, maybe a call or two a week in or out but I didn't want to reveal my own number. I spent £72 on a second hand LG K10 2017, a phone I'd previously had from new and have passed on to me O/H. It's possible to replace the battery which to me is a plus (I did it in mine) and it was otherwise 100% reliable.

The one I found on Ebay is described as 'pristine' though it isn't due here until Fri/Sat so we shall see.

As an aside, what's the best current deal on a PAYG data rollover sim?

The suggested Unihertz fits the bill nicely all be it a little more expensive than I was hoping and it gets poor battery reports. May be able to tame that as the first thing I tend to do is turn off / delete / disable most of the stuff that comes preloaded.

May end up buying used and a new battery, the LGK10 example however is far too big for me, I want a telephone to put in my pocket not a television. Have no idea about roll over data deals, never use mobile data so just have an old O2 sim card which I top up with a tenner every 12 months or so.

I'd need a magnifying glass with a 2.45" screen; that's less than my current Motorola is wide. smile
