Just purchased a new Pc and was wondering what the best why to transfer large applications (Excel/Access etc) from old pc (lost original CD).

The old pc has no CD RW capability just floppy disc (which I don't think holds enough memory)?

Thanks in Advance.

For the actual MS office applications, you need a CD unfortunatley. If you just copy them they won't work... If you can't get hold of a CD for MS office you could have a look at www.openoffice.org. It works quite well IMO!

'nother recommendation for open office. Small, quick and compatible with MS Office.

Take the hard drive out of the old pooter, look on the back for the correct settings to set it to "slave" attach it to one of the free cables in the new pooter

Et voila all your old files on a separate disk (be something like "d:" on the new system)

I think you may have have to arse about a bit than that, but at least you'll have access to all your old stuff

Another satisfied OpenOffice user here. If you do try it, make sure you get the latest beta version - they are about to release version 2.0 I think. I've had no problems and prefer it to the older version 1.1.x .

If it's a large number of documents and loose files that need shifting, perhaps a cheap USB thumbdrive would do the trick? Assuming both PC's have USB of course. They come in various different capacities from 32Mb up to 1Gb, are very convenient, and relatively inexpensive at the moment.

Then moving the hard disk to the new machine will be loads quicker!

It might be a copied CD with a semi-legit key... quite often in big places where theres a constant stream of PCs coming in they come with XP & Office licences & keys which are never used - cause the actual install will be done from a standard image or a corporate CD, leaving enterprising deployment contractors with a pile of free keys. With Windows XP it's self MS has started to block online activation of new OEM keys for exactly this reason (you have to ring them and answer 20 questions), not sure if they've done the same with Office yet though.
