Looks like it’ll be next month. Any thoughts or predictions?

Predictions:

- Routine iPhone launch as the main event
- Maybe updated watch and TV

There doesn't seem to be anything revolutionary coming up for the phone, so my money's on calling it a 12S, not a 13.

Desired:

M1X / M2 Macs, but I reckon these will be October at the earliest.

The September event is normally reserved for the latest iPhone launch. Although this was delayed in 2020 because of Covid. What else do we think there might be?

This.

The iPhone 12 was a new design so I expect them to just tweak it a bit, which as you say will be the 12S.

Apparently the phone upgrades will be mostly the camera and the processor.

Apple Watch 7 will be launched.

AirPods 3 will be launched.

It seems like every man and his dog are mostly waiting on the new 14” and 16” M2 MacBook Pro’s, and apparently these have now entered production, and will probably be launched in October.

I have a 2017 13” MBP and I won’t be able to hand my money over fast enough for a new 14” MBP if the leaked spec and redesign turns out to be correct.

Nothing much from any leading tech supplier I think. Only Samsung has the foldable phones which is newish but these are just upgrades to the existing models. Hard to see anything new of any significance at most of these events, especially where phones are concerned

Foldable phones might tempt me to upgrade. Otherwise I’ll stick with my 12 Mini.

Indeed - my main Mac is 8 years old now and still going strong. But it won't get any updates other than minor tweaks to Big Sur now, and is too old to use Sidecar - that's not a problem when I'm at home / in my office, but on client sites Sidecar would be very useful... So M1X / M2 is definitely on my shopping list.

I'm hoping for an exciting new iPhone as I've been wanting to upgrade my 7 for ages now and I'd like an Apple Watch too.

Similarly my 3rd generation ipad is in dire need of replacement, especially as the other half cracked the screen by dropping a fork on it.

When you say 'exciting', what are you referring to? Phones maxed their specs out years ago pretty much. The only recent new thing has been foldables. Any new phones are just a minor improvement on the previous ones. You can buy 'exciting' right now.

This is true.

Changes to phones are simply incremental now, and have been for some time.

Slightly better camera.
Slightly better screen.
Slightly faster processor.
Slightly improved operating system.

etc.

I honestly don't think much will change in the world of phones for the foreseeable future. They won't change much in size as people want that size of screen, and they are probably as thin as they are ever going to be given that stuffing a battery in there is the limiting factor for going thin.

Folding phones will come, but I think they will be nothing more than a gimmick. They will be the '3D TV' of the phone world. People will rush out and buy them, realise it isn't a much use or as much fun as they expected, and they will fade away.

Coming from 7? Might be be exciting to have the new features AND have your battery and storage run out by end of the day.

Things like Face ID for payments is quite a revolutionary step. It’s not all about the screen. New chips make things happen.

This, Apple seem to change the design every 2 or 3 years (6,7 and 8 all the same, 10,11 the same, 12 and I suspect 13 will be the same) just with updates to the processor and camera that few people even notice.

My daughter wants a new phone, I intend to get her the 12 when the 13 comes out as I am hoping the price will be cheaper for essentially the same phone.

I have a 12 Pro on the upgrade plan (i.e. I basically PCP the phone) and I have to say that apart from the incremental updates, this year's phone is likely to just be the same. First year in a very long time that I am basically not considering upgrading.

Just hoping for something extra on the 12 otherwise I could have bought one already but I'm holding off. An improvement on the camera would be fine. Coming from the 7 I think it will be enough!
