Does Google Photos make sense for an iPhone/Apple user?
Discussion
Just to set the scene, I currently pay for Google cloud photos storage and Adobe Lightroom cloud.
Since switching back to Apple 6 months ago, should I bin off Google photos and pay for Apple cloud storage instead?
At the moment, when I take photos and screen shots on my iPhone, they automatically get pushed to Google photos. However, if I want to make a quick edit of the photo on my iPhone, it’ll then push a new version to Google photos; annoying. Alternatively, if I want to edit some nice photos in Lightroom, I’ll make the edits, save it to my iPhone photos, and then that gets pushed to Google photos so I end up with it in 3 places sometimes.
This is dumb, right? I guess I need a little clarification before biting the bullet. Something to add is that I use Google drive (google docs) for all my document file management which I really like. Does this mean it makes sense to switch to Apple drive for all my folders and files (plus use Page instead)?
One final thing, I use a MacBook too, but rarely.
Thanks.

We are pretty much a total Apple household - Macs / iPads / iPhones / Apple TVs / HomePods / etc...
BUT, we use google photos and google drive as it just works better in our experience and it happens that we were given a load of Google Home Hubs for free and these are all setup to be digital photo frames powered by Google Photos which is handy for family - esp being able to see photos of us from holidays as/when they are taken

We are pretty much in the same situation but I moved from Android about 12 months ago. Always used Google Photos so kept my photos with them and also have them in iCloud. I figure that it's best to have them in 2 places for an additional couple of quid and I also share the library on Google with my wife and I'm surprised that you can't do that with Apple. You have to share folders manually in iCloud which is rubbish. Thanks all.
Today I have looked at moving google drive and photos to iCloud, but honestly, google drive is miles ahead of Apple iCloud Drive/files, particular when using it in a web browser.
I’m thinking of simply turning off google photos / disabling the sync/backup and paying extra storage for iCloud. That way I can still use google drive for file management. Seems a simple workflow. I could then download all my photos from google drive onto an external hard drive and stop the subscription for the storage I have.
Simples?
