Pixel Slate Chrome OS tablet ..... would you buy one?
Discussion
I wouldn't buy the Pixel Slate itself at this point in time, unless it was extremely cheap. It's getting on a bit re. support vs. price/value.
There are other Chrome OS tablets/detachables which launched last year and this year which might be worth a look. But I'd wait and see what's released on the market this autumn. It'd be nice to see a more powerful machine in detachable form - the models from last year and this year have focussed on affordability e.g. Lenovo Duet and ASUS CM3 (CM3000).
It might be worth checking out the convertibles out there too, there are lots of them, often with better specs. You'll need to keep overall dimensions and weight in mind when considering convertibles. You probably don't want anything too heavy or bulky if your main usage will be as a tablet.

there have been some pretty good deals on them at times, but that is unsurprising since they've been abandoned.
if i was looking for a high end android tablet i'd probably consider it, because they're still guaranteed security updates till June 2026 you're lucky to get 3 years on an android tablet.

I'm an Linux/Android user through and through (got a work iPhone recently reluctantly) but Android tablets just dont get very good support, dare I say it but if I was in the market for a decent tablet that I didn't want to have to root etc then I think I'd look at the Pixel Slate (with its support till 2026) or an ipad.
I had a Nexus 9 many years ago which was serving me well, then it randomly broke, gadget insurance paid me out for it because they were discontinued. Decided I didn't use it enough to warrant replacing.

HP have just launched a new version of the X2 11 Chrome OS tablet with a Snapdragon 7C processor.
Dependent on your usage it might be worth looking at.
The 7C processor is already available in some other Chromebooks, and it's no power house, but it might suffice for casual home use. It all depends on the loads you'll put on the machine. It will deliver good battery life though.
It'll also get 8 to 8.5 years of updates as it's a new model just launched.
Personally I'd have to see it at a discounted price before I'd consider it (and discounts and promos do happen frequently).

In the meantime I'll continue with my Samsung Tab A and wait for a Chrome OS tablet with a beefier CPU.

I like the look of that, my Microsoft Surface is similar but tbh I see a tablet as something cheaper to use away from home like a Tab A or KIndle Fire 10 Dependent on your usage it might be worth looking at.

I'd be hearbroken if I lost/damaged my surface on a flight, if that were my Kindle Fire 10 then I'd just shrug and order another

I'll keep an eye on it coming out over here.
I want to use it for general stuff but also be powerful enough to Linux and VS Code for when I don't have my laptop.
