This is a shout for help from my mrs as I know nothing about phones.

Because of a pairing problem with her phone she is now looking for a smart watch that she doesn't have to type in a pairing code.

Does anyone know if a Fitbit Versa 3 needs a pairing code typed into the phone or will it connect automatically via an app?

Please help as I want to buy the Fitbit for her Birthday next week.

Many thanks in advance.

I suspect it's the phone, not the watch.

This is why I suspect the phone:

I have a Casio Edifice which pairs to my phone using Bluetooth. It paired fine with my Samsung S8, and then my S10. I briefly had a Moto G8 and it refused to pair - I tried everything (like clearing the pairing memory from the Edifice, full reset and so on). Nope, it would not pair. I did a lot of googling and found it's a very common problem with the Moto G8.

Then I got a Samsung S21 and it paired with no problems at all. The Casio watch isn't a smart which, so you can't enter any codes to pair anyway.

So my conclusion is that the issue is the phone, so if your Mrs gets a different smart watch then I reckon it still won't pair with her phone.

Have you tried pairing the watch with another make of phone ?

Thanks for the reply.
We know it's the phone.
My question was about me buying a Fitbit Versa 3 and could we just use an app to pair that model Fitbit to her model of phone? Or does the Fitbit need a pairing code to connect it to the G7+ Phone?
And if that's the case we know we can't do it.

Ah, I see now. I'm not sure then. I'm only guessing, but it seems the app that supports the watch does not want a code (like my Casio), but the phone itself will not pair without a code, and since you can't enter one, the phone will not pair.

This says the Fitbit Versa 3 will display a code to enter into the phone's app:

That's good. If you are off to look at one, hopefully the shop will let you try and pair it and then you'll know it works (or not). That's an advantage of not ordering one on line !

Have a look at page 36, I am pretty sure that you will find it easy to connect and it wont need a code.

Fortunately we phoned the store to make sure the Fitbit was in stock. None in stock although we were told there was yesterday.
So that saved a 45 minute drive twice.

We have ordered one on Amazon with a 28% discount and should be here before Friday.

I will post the pairing results when it arrives.

As a Versa 3 owner....you need a pairing code. But, the pairing is done inside the fitbit app, not the O/S level Bluetooth pairing, so you should be ok.

very good !

Did you have to enter a code on the phone and/or watch, or did it just pair without one ?

She had to put a code from the watch to the app on her phone.
And then to activate notifications for messages and calls she had to put another code from the watch to the phone.
